The Neighborhood presents: A Sweet New Year with Caroline Schiff

  • 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm | Tuesday September 13, 2022
  • Demo Kitchen | Ace Hotel Brooklyn

Join the James Beard Award-nominated pastry chef, Caroline Schiff, for an intimate and interactive pastry master class for Rosh Hashanah.

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is a celebratory holiday that brings with it hopes for sweetness in the year ahead. And what better way is there to share those wishes than with a nibble of something sweet?

Join the James Beard Award-nominated pastry chef, Caroline Schiff (Gage & Tollner), for an intimate and interactive pastry master class, sharing ideas and recipes for Rosh Hashanah desserts that offer a delicious riff on tradition.

Caroline will share how to make the Honey Nut Halvah Tart from her cookbook, The Sweet Side of Sourdough, and demonstrate her techniques for baking irresistible rugelach, filled with apple butter and walnuts, chocolate-almond, and red wine figs with sesame.

Please note that most of the recipes in this demonstration include nuts.

Doors open at 6:30pm

This event is part of a collaborative series between Demo Kitchen by Ace Hotel and The Neighborhood that has been curated by Leah Koenig, food writer and author of six cookbooks including The Jewish Cookbook and Modern Jewish Cooking.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD

The Neighborhood is working to build a Jewish community and cultural center for the North/Central Brooklyn Jewish communities that will be an inclusive and welcoming community hub that reflects the spirit of Brooklyn — future-thinking and deeply historical, iconoclastic, and sacred. As we look for our physical location, we are excited to be working in collaboration with friends and organizations throughout Brooklyn on pop-up activities around the Jewish calendar, food traditions, and cultural events highlighting the creativity and diversity of Jewish life in our neighborhoods.
