Indie documentary lovers and music subculture devotees, get ready! <\/span>Doc\u2019n Roll Films<\/a> are thrilled to announce the return of the DOC\u2019N ROLL NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL<\/b>, running from <\/span>28 April to 7 May 2026<\/b> across some of Manhattan\u2019s and Brooklyn\u2019s favourite movie screens: <\/span>Roxy Cinema (Tribeca), Cinema Village (Greenwich Village), <\/b>and<\/span> Nitehawk Cinemas <\/b>in<\/span> Williamsburg and Prospect Park<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The festival launches on <\/span>April 28 <\/b>with a special <\/span>Opening Night celebration at Ace Hotel Brooklyn,<\/b> bringing together documentary directors, producers\u00a0 and industry guests for an evening dedicated to arts and music storytelling \u2013 with <\/span>DJ Pete Monsanto<\/a><\/strong> setting the tone for the night.<\/p>\n

Now in its <\/span>fourth edition<\/b>, DOC\u2019N ROLL NEW YORK\u2019s broad-ranging 2026 lineup will feature <\/span>two World Premieres, four North American Premieres and six NYC Premieres<\/b>, celebrating the untamed, the legendary and the game-changers in genres ranging from punk and blues to rave culture, underground dance music, Irish folk, and visual art and tattoo counterculture.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s genre-hopping programme takes audiences deep into the worlds of musical pioneers and cultural movements: psychedelic punk provocateurs <\/span>Butthole Surfers<\/b>, <\/span>Sex Pistols founding member Glen Matlock<\/b>, blues powerhouse <\/span>Big Mama Thornton<\/b>, Irish folk innovator <\/span>D\u00f3nal Lunny<\/b>, underground DJ and global dancefloor architect <\/span>Lee Burridge<\/b>, tattoo legend <\/span>Felix Leu<\/b>, pioneering New York electro, hip-hop and dance producer <\/span>Arthur Baker<\/b>, the fascinating world of Japan\u2019s <\/span>kissa<\/span><\/i> listening caf\u00e9s <\/span>and<\/span><\/i> the explosive rise of the UK <\/span>rave and breakbeat movement<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The festival will present <\/span>two World Premieres<\/b>: <\/span>Before It Was Cool: The Brooklyn Beat from Lauterbach\u2019s<\/span><\/i>, a love letter to a forgotten Brooklyn music scene that helped shape the borough\u2019s creative identity, and <\/span>K\u00f6ln Tracks: The Legend of Keith Jarrett\u2019s K\u00f6ln Concert<\/span><\/i>, exploring the remarkable story behind one of the most iconic recordings in jazz history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These twelve acclaimed independent documentaries will immerse audiences in the lives and legacies of uncompromising artists, with many screenings featuring <\/span>exclusive post-film Q&As with directors, musicians and key creatives<\/b> that will offer insights into the stories behind the music.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
