The Gallery presents: An End Uncertain by Takata Nursery

  • 8:00 am - 11:59 pm | Thursday May 18, 2023
  • Gallery | Ace Hotel New York

TAKATA NURSERY curates a three month long site specific plant installation in The Gallery at Ace Hotel New York

TAKATA NURSERY is a small greenhouse in Brooklyn NY specializing in sculptural houseplants– their design work focuses on custom interior plantscapes and set design.

We invite them to explore the hotel and our Gallery as an environment and test of time to observe changes in plants as an unfinished art form.

The exhibition will be growing, shifting, and on view from April 6 to June 25.

An End Uncertain: Artist Statement

Authored by nature, their owner’s attention (and neglect)
multiplied by the varied exposures of home interiors—
these plants are a metric, a symptom of time and the ritual of care.

Forces that stress and warp the plant’s growth may be perceived as negative, but
can also be read as a record of maneuvering, of adaptation. Growth is reactive,
incremental but to an end uncertain; insisted shapes emerge again and again as record
of sustained connection.

The relationship between plant and human hinges on an
indeterminate outcome of duty and care — a will to drive life towards maturity against
the forces of entropy.

As part of her exhibition, Taryne Messer presents a series of classes:

Seedling & Propagation Workshop, on May 6
Plants as Sculpture, on June 10

Takata Nursery is a long-term project to grow plants— urging what therapeutic modes of
seeing, being are realized through the act of tending.
