GuadaLAjara Film Festival Presents The Mighty Victoria + Opening Night Gala

Join us for the Opening Night of the GuadaLAjara Film Festival with a screening of the film The Mighty Victoria, directed by Raúl Ramón. Red carpet at 6:3oPM and an  inaugural party to follow screening held in the theatre’s grand lobby. 

Film Synopsis: 1936. The town La Esperanza, in the Mexican desert, receives the news of the closure of the mine, its main economic motor, and the consequent cancellation of the railroad route, the only way of communication with civilization. As everyone runs away the town, Durán, the young mechanic, sees his dream of becoming a train driver frustrated and has to make a decision: cross the northern border and give up his roots and the love of his life or help a group of locals who resist with the craziest plan: build their own steam train. A tribute to Mexican ingenuity.

Director Raúl Ramón studied Communication Sciences at ITESO. Director of Vértigo Films Mexico, president and founder of the Jalisco’s Academy of Cinematography and screenwriter and director of The Mighty Victoria. This screenplay received the Alejandro Galindo Screenplay Award by Vicente Leñero (IMCINE, 2011). This is his debut film as director.

1936. El pueblo de La Esperanza, en el desierto mexicano, recibe la noticia del cierre de la mina, su principal motor económico, y con esto la cancelación de la ruta del ferrocarril, única vía de comunicación con la civilización. Durán, el joven mecánico, ve frustrado su sueño de convertirse en maquinista y tendrá que elegir entre cruzar la frontera norte y renunciar a sus raíces y al amor de su vida, o ayudar a un grupo de pobladores que resisten en el pueblo con el plan más descabellado: construir su propio tren de vapor. Un homenaje al ingenio mexicano.

Estudió la carrera de Ciencias de la Comunicación en el ITESO. Director de Vértigo Cine, presidente y fundador de la Academia Jalisciense de Cinematografía y guionista y director de Poderoso Victoria. Este guion recibió el premio Alejandro Galindo de IMCINE, 2011, a cargo de Vicente Leñero. Esta es su ópera prima.
