SUMMARY:J Davies: Photography Exhibition in Good Chemistry
DESCRIPTION:Ace Hotel Sydney in partnership with UNSW Galleries. On exhibit from February til end of April. \nJ Davies examines intimacy\, identity and neurodiversity through a deeply personal lens\, and is known for an expansive photographic archive documenting queer culture and community in Naarm/Melbourne. J’s practice opens a candid window into moments of unapologetic queerness\, foregrounding relationships\, bodies and lived experience. Their works challenge conventional depictions of queer identity\, instead offering space for personal narratives shaped by love\, connection and\nbelonging. Their photographs question entrenched social norms around sexuality\, gender and intimacy while celebrating the tenderness\, playfulness and fluid physicality that define queer relational worlds. \nAbout the Artist\nJ Davies (Ngāti Te Awhitu\, Ngāti Hauā) is an Australian-born\, takatāpui artist living and\ncreating on the stolen lands of the Kulin Nation in Naarm/Melbourne\, Australia. J’s work has\nbeen exhibited at Les Rencontres d’Arles (France)\, the Hong Kong International\nPhotography Festival\, the National Gallery of Victoria for Melbourne Now\, the Centre for\nContemporary Photography\, and Photo 2024. They have been an artist-in-residence at\nCollingwood Yards\, and the winner of The Midsumma Art Prize 2026. J Davies is\nrepresented by MARS Gallery in Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand. \nCuratorial Partner\nUNSW Galleries is a university art museum located in Paddington\, Sydney. It presents\nexhibitions by leading Australian and international artists and designers.
