Join us for an evening of live dance curated by CreateART, featuring Kristi Cole, Madison Hicks, The Pocket Fuel Groovers, and Michelle Thompson Ulerich.

Curated by CreateART – multidisciplinary performance and residency platform connecting artists and audiences in diverse venues in NYC. Founded and led by artists, CreateART offers visibility, support and amplification for the voices of emerging artists.

About the talents:

Kristi Cole is a Queer, Queens based performer, choreographer and filmmaker with a BA in Dance and Political Science from The George Washington University. She founded Kristi Cole & Guests in 2019 with the mission of bringing together artists to create powerful and thought-provoking interdisciplinary work. Her stage and film work has been presented in the tri-state area as well as in Atlanta, Georgia and Toronto, Canada. Cole has self-produced two evenings of Art & Performance featuring live performances, film premieres, as well as a visual art gallery opening. Awards include: Queens Art Fund New Work Grantee (2020), Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation Artist in Residence (2021), Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grantee (2021) and Everwood Farm Artist-in-Residence (2022).

Madison Hicks holds a BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School and an MFA in Choreography from California Institute of the Arts. Madison is a freelance creator, performer, and educator. In 2022, she received the Orsolina28 “Call for Creation” residency for her project, “Corrupt(ed)”. Madison was one of eight choreographers chosen for The Jacob’s Pillow Ann and Weston Hicks Choreographic Fellowship in 2021. In the Summer of 2022, she was a guest choreographer at The Juilliard School’s Summer Intensive. In the Fall of 2022, she is thrilled to be commissioned by The Fordham Ailey BFA program, Peabody University, and Vitacca Ballet along with being chosen as a choreographer for DanceLabNY. She is a company artist with Sidra Bell Dance New York. She is the Director and Founder of Moving Forward Dallas, an innovative dance intensive and Non-Profit Organization for young artists. She is the Resident Choreographer for New York Dance Project and has been commissioned by companies such as Ballet Arkansas, Avant Chamber Ballet, Mash-Up Contemporary Dance company, Ballet Project OC, Orange County School of the Performing and Visual Arts, Water Street Dance Milwaukee, and Lindenwood University to create new work. She has presented work at Boston Dance Festival, LA Dance Festival, Palm Desert Choreography Festival, and others. She premiered her recent solo work “Sparkle with a K” at The Navel Theater in Downtown Los Angeles in 2020. She has been a guest choreographer for Booker T. Washington HSPVA Rep II Ensemble, The University of Texas at Austin, Center of Creative Arts, Houston MET Too, San Diego Civic Center, and The Windward School along with rigorously teaching artists of all ages. Madison is a faculty member at Steps on Broadway and Peridance Center.

The Pocket Fuel Groovers are a company of New York City based dancers founded by Nick Alselmo in 2020. Their movement is a style influenced by elements of contemporary, hip-hop, ballet, street dance as well as martial arts. By combining these movement forms with elements of theater, DJ-ing, team sport exercise and ideologies, they aim to push the boundaries of what is possible in a performance and communal setting. So far, they have performed at Arts on Site, Abrons Arts Center, Maria Hernandez Park, Prospect Park, & Hart Bar. In October 2020, they recorded a dance film titled Buffer Zone, shot by Retrograde Studios. In November 2021, The Pocket Fuel Groovers premiered their first evening length work, “The Strides” and Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn.

Caleb Patterson began professional training in 2014 at The Joffrey Ballet School where he performed works for notable choreographers such as Nathan Trice, Rena Butler, and Patrick O’Brien. He most recently performed “Swerve” at Battery Dance Festival with LaneCoArts. Caleb currently works with Kayla Farrish, MATHETA dance, Michelle Thompson Ulerich, and LaneCoArts.

Originally from California, Michelle Thompson Ulerich trained at San Francisco Ballet for 9 years. She danced with Ballet Austin for 14 years. She is the artistic director of Spark Movement Collective. She is an adjunct professor at SUNY Purchase and has created for companies all over the United States.

Johnny Butler is a Grammy-award winning saxophonist, recording artist, arranger, composer, dancer, and filmmaker. Over the years, he has worked with many of his musical heroes, including Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers, Gov’t Mule) Wynton Marsalis, The Levon Helm Band, Tune-Yards, Joe Lally (Fugazi), and Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, among others.
