ジャンル、境界線に囚われない日本のロックバンド：Buffalo Daughter。Ambient Kyoto ツアーの期間に、特別に PIOPIKO でライブDJセットを開催。 Boundary-breaking, genre-smashing riotous Tokyo rock group Buffalo Daughter stop by PIOPIKO for a live DJ set during their Ambient Kyoto tour.
12月3日にはMETROでBuffalo Daughterのライブセットには、山本精一、井上薫、1729をお迎えしたスペシャルライブをMETROでお楽しみいただけます。You can catch Buffalo Daughter at METRO on 12/3 where they will be doing a live set with special guests Seichi Yamamoto, Inoue Kaoru and 1729.
BIO
1993年 シュガー吉永、大野由美子、山本ムーグ、小川千果の４人で結成。音楽嗜好が雑多な４人が集まり電子音楽とロック、ヒップホップ、ハウスの間を自由奔放に行き来し、東京を中心にライブ活動を展開。2枚のEPをインディレーベルより発売する。その一枚がビースティーボーイズ主宰の伝説のレーベル、グランドロイヤルの目にとまり、1996年に契約、活動の場は東京から一気に世界へ。アメリカ進出を機に脱退した小川千果に代わって松下敦（Zazen Boys）が新たにツアーメンバーとなり、国内外でのツアーやフェスティバルに多数出演、世界有数のライブバンドとして確固たる地位を確立。そんなツアー漬けの生活の合間に制作された1998年発売 2nd アルバム「New Rock」と2001年発売「I 」は、茂木欣一（Fishmnas, 東京スカパラダイスオーケストラ）をメインドラマーに迎え、車窓から見た景色の連続性とジャーマンロックの反復感、多種多様な人々が行き交う異国地での日々を綴った時代のマスターピースとして、20年を経た現在でも色褪せないサウンドとして多くのファンに愛されている。（2023年アナログ盤でリイシュー）。その後2010年には自身のレーベルBuffalo Ranchを設立。アルバムリリースごとにバンドサウンドでの新しい音楽を追求し続け、最新アルバムは2021年発売の8枚目のアルバム「We Are The Times」。パンデミックを挟んで前作から7年という長い時間を経て発売されたこのアルバムは、閉塞する時代の空気感と、そこから新たな世界へと旅立つ希望と期待感が封じ込まれ、今の時代を象徴する作品として高く評価された。結成30周年を迎える2023年、サポートメンバー小松正宏（Bloody Thirsty Butchers）、奥村建（Delaware ）と共に30周年記念ツアーと銘打ち、オーストラリア、アメリカ、カナダ、日本で公演を行い、新旧ファンと記念イヤーを祝った。周年ツアーファイナルは11月21日に渋谷クラブクアトロに決定、前述の、過去にツアーや録音に参加したドラマーが全員集結、初のツインドラムスタイルでのライブとなる。
In 1993, the band BIO was formed with four members: Sugar Yoshinaga, Yumiko Ono, Moog Yamamoto, and Chika Ogawa. These four individuals had diverse musical tastes and freely explored the boundaries between electronic music, rock, hip-hop, and house. They primarily performed live shows in Tokyo. They released two EPs on an independent label, one of which caught the attention of the legendary Grand Royal label, founded by the Beastie Boys, leading to a contract in 1996. This expanded their reach from Tokyo to the global stage.
When Chika Ogawa left the band following their American breakthrough, Atsushi Matshita (Zazen Boys) joined as a new touring member. BIO participated in numerous tours and festivals both domestically and internationally, establishing themselves as one of the world’s premier live bands.
Their second album, “New Rock,” released in 1998, and “I,” released in 2001, featured Kinichi Motegi (Fishmans, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra) as the main drummer. These albums are considered timeless masterpieces that capture the continuous flow of scenery from a car window, the repetition of German rock, and the daily life in foreign lands with a diverse array of people.
In 2010, BIO established their own label, Buffalo Ranch. With each album release, they continued to explore new music with a band sound. Their latest album, “We Are The Times,” was released in 2021 after a seven-year gap since their previous work. It was highly praised for encapsulating the atmosphere of a time marked by closure and the hope and anticipation of embarking on a new world from there.
In 2023, marking their 30th anniversary, BIO embarked on a 30th-anniversary tour with support members Masahiro Komatsu (Bloody Thirsty Butchers) and Ken Okumura (Delaware). They performed in Australia, the United States, Canada, and Japan, celebrating with both old and new fans. The grand finale of the anniversary tour is set for November 21st at Shibuya Club Quattro, where all the drummers who had previously participated in tours and recordings will come together for their first live performance in a twin drum style.
