Walkabout- found in Kyoto by Yusuke Hanai

Ace Hotel Kyoto presents “Walkabout – found in Kyoto,” an exhibition by Yusuke Hanai as the third edition of its Artist-in-Residence (A!R) program.

This exhibition features numerous drawings and sketches created during his stay in Kyoto.

Ace Hotel Kyotoのアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（A!R）プログラム第三弾として、花井祐介による展示「Walkabout – found in Kyoto」を開催いたします。

本展では、京都での滞在を通して生まれた多数のドローイングやスケッチ作品を展示いたします。

Artist Statement

Walkabout – found in Kyoto

I believe traveling makes people kinder.

Leaving our familiar surroundings to catch a glimpse of everyday life elsewhere helps us understand different cultures. I think accepting diverse cultures and perspectives is what leads to genuine human kindness.

A place visited by so many travelers may be a city that has nurtured kindness in just as many hearts.

Kyoto is a special destination for people from around the world, as well as for those of us from Japan. While walking slowly around Kyoto, I captured small fragments of kindness I found along the way.

旅は人を優しくすると思う。

普段暮らしている場所を離れ、そこに生きる人々の営みを垣間見ることで、自分とは異なる文化を理解する。そうやって多様な文化や考え方を受け入れることが、人の優しさにつながるのだと思います。

多くの旅人が訪れてきた場所は、それだけたくさんの人を優しくしてきた街なのかもしれません。

海外からはもちろん、日本人にとっても京都は特別な旅の目的地のひとつです。京都をゆっくり歩き回りながら見つけた優しさの欠片たちを描き留めました。
