Our Partner: LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division

LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) is a nonprofit arts organization committed to presenting site-responsive projects in the public sphere throughout Los Angeles and beyond. LAND believes that all people deserve the opportunity to experience innovative contemporary art in their everyday existence, to enhance their quality of life and ways of thinking about their community. In turn, artists deserve the opportunity to realize projects in the public realm, unsupported through traditional institutions. LAND brings contemporary art outside of the walls of museums and galleries, into our shared public spaces and unique sites.

Star Feliz

Star Feliz is an artist and healer living and working on Tongva land (Los Angeles, CA). Feliz illuminates the processes of world-building as they braid back together the strands of life within their Afro-Taino lineage of the Caribbean and its diaspora that were so violently fragmented since the onset of European colonization. Working across media, their conceptual installations take the form of maps, songs and talismans while investigating universal phenomena like loss and desire, they engage with the theoretical touchstones of feminist thought, the queer radical tradition, contemporary Black liberation movements and land rematriation. Under the moniker of Priestusssy they create experimental devotional music with the earth through intimate narratives of transformation. Feliz has performed and exhibited nationally and internationally.

Gabriela Ruiz

Gabriela Ruiz is a self-taught artist whose practice blends diverse forms of expression and media, including sculpture, video, painting and apparel design. In her work, she uses a variety of color palettes to create vivid and vibrant environments that function as installations, settings for performances or as backdrops for fashion shoots. Ruiz’s sculptures incorporate found objects and industrial materials, such as thrift store furniture and insulation foam, and investigate ideas of home and self and our relationship to environments around us. Strongly influenced by growing up in LA’s San Fernando Valley to immigrant parents from Mexico, Ruiz’s practice is a reflection of the vibrancy of Mexican cultural and artistic traditions.

Ruiz will be in residence during the month of April 2024 and will be showcasing her work at Ace DTLA from May 2024 – July 2024.
