From Saturday, February 1, a solo exhibition titled “follage” by Hawaii-based artist Kristin Baucom will be held at the Lobby Gallery on the first floor.
The exhibition title follage is a coined word combining “forage,” “foliage,” and “collage.” In this exhibition, Kristin, who redefines the possibilities of natural dyes, presents works centered on the themes of upcycling and sustainability, using locally sourced natural materials as well as food scraps that would otherwise be discarded.
During the exhibition period, dyeing workshops will also be held, utilizing materials such as used coffee grounds and vegetable peels collected from the hotel’s restaurants and cafés.
Reception Party
February 2, 6:00PM – 8:00PM
Kristin Baucom is a Honolulu-based artist redefining the possibilities of natural dye through a fresh, contemporary approach. Drawing inspiration from traditional dyeing techniques, she integrates sustainability at every stage of her practice.
With a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Kristin creates vibrant hues from locally foraged plants, flowers, and food waste collected in partnership with local businesses.
Her work explores the relationship between art, ecology, and community, rooted in process-driven making and place-based materials.
Kristin’s practice extends into site-specific installations and collaborations with fashion and hospitality spaces, including Ron Herman Waikiki, Prince Waikiki, and TRUNK(hotel) in Shibuya.
Through clothing, textiles, and immersive installations, she highlights the diverse applications of natural dye, inspiring others to bring this sustainable art form into their daily lives.
Her collaborative exhibitions and installations have received critical acclaim, with features in Honolulu Magazine, Violet, B Magazine (South Korea), and HawaiiStyle (Japan).
