Artist-in-Residence Guarionex Rodriguez Jr. returns to the Lobby for a special July 4 DJ set. In tandem with his exhibition Planets in Transit, on view in the Gallery, Guarionex brings the same curiosity for diasporic sound, community and connection to an all-night set. Join us from 8PM–1AM.
Guarionex Rodriguez, Jr. is a Dominican-American artist based in Brooklyn, NY. His work explores diasporic unity and niche musical movements that have served in the creation of community and identity in the past and present. His artistic practice has been rooted in themes of trust and vulnerability that have provided a voice for multiple communities by holding space that reflects and connects with others. Simultaneously, his experimentation through analog techniques bring elements of abstraction to his figurative images. This manual practice heightens the intimacy of his work while additionally asking the viewer to consider how we are influenced by our surroundings.
