Join Capicu! NYC, NuevaYorkinos, MoCADA for an evening celebrating the stories, sounds, and traditions that shape New York’s Latine, Caribbean, and African diasporic communities.
The night begins with a conversation on cultural memory, community archives, and the role of institutions in preserving the histories of New York. Moderated by Jeary Payne, Associate Educator at The Met, the panel features Djali Brown-Cepeda, Founder and Curator of NuevaYorkinos, and Amy Andrieux, Executive Director and Chief Curator of MoCADA.
Following the conversation, the evening continues with domino games, a community installation, and music by Lobby resident DJ WOOF and MAMICANA.

NuevaYorkinos is a digital project dedicated to documenting and preserving New York City’s Latine and Caribbean culture and history through family photographs and personal stories. The counter-archive empowers participants to tell their own stories as an act of self-determination and liberation.

Join multimedia artist, educator and 2026 Artist-in-Residence Curry J. Hackett for a guided walk exploring Brooklyn’s built environment through the lens of collage. Guests will learn to tell stories by remix archival images, photos, and ephemera from the artist-in-residence to develop their own reimaginings of Gowanus and downtown Brooklyn.
